Is SUSE any good? Is it much different to OpenSUSE? by vmosin linux

[–]redsteakraw 0 points1 point ago

All I know is I hate SLED, I just wanted to install KDE and ran into package hell when I tried to install trivial things. I have no problems with Open SuSe or zypper.

Musings on the linux audio stack [Should Phonon drop support for Alsa/OSS?] by the-fritzin kde

[–]redsteakraw 0 points1 point ago

I say that that it should be platform based, PulseAudio for Linux and keep OSS for *BSD. Alsa should be depreciated and left to any devs that want to keep it up. Having Pulse audio as a first class citizen would be a whole lot better than the current situation, PulseAudio 2.0 also is looking quite good.

Kwin gets new activity config for 4.9, launch apps allways on an activity, or all activities by redsteakrawin kde

[–]redsteakraw[S] 0 points1 point ago

To logically seperate your different tasks with activites to speed your workflow and make it easier to launch relevant files / apps / bookmark. Also to have a customised desktops further help you. Since they also could have different settings having a presentation activity and a roadtrip activity would make the power settings react the way you would want them to with that real life activity.

Kwin gets new activity config for 4.9, launch apps allways on an activity, or all activities by redsteakrawin kde

[–]redsteakraw[S] 0 points1 point ago

The thing you could do is put the documents you are working on in your activity so that it is easy to launch the documents. With the new activities KIO this should be easy. The Share Like Connect applet also adds the current file to the activity if the app supports it(not many do just plasma active apps for now more is planned).

I don't think the app devs need to have the concept of activities just a standard session management. A standard session management for applications would benefit users outside of KDE / Plasma. There is one thing that may be done but it is a bit crazy, if the memory associated with the apps was dumped to the swap(much like it does in sleep) and then reloaded when the activity is loaded up. I don't know if this is fully technically feasible.

[–]redsteakraw[S] 1 point2 points ago

That has nothing to do with activities, unless there is a standard outside of KDE that could implement it.

[–]redsteakraw[S] 2 points3 points ago

This should work for all apps, This should associate the app with an activity so it only opens on the activity. So if you are on your web browsing activity and open up the gimp, if set up it should open on your graphics activity. The states are an extra thing on startup.

The associating files / bookmarks and applaunchers that he blogged about yesterday should make assosiating data with the activities a bit easier. So the only thing that is missing now is a better activity swithcer / plasma UI. It works but could be better.

Blizzard Apologizes for 'Diablo III' Bugs, Delays Real-Money Auction House by KAPT_Kipperin TechNewsToday

[–]redsteakraw -1 points0 points ago

So they mandated an internet connection for their shitty system to authenticate the game so it would be secure enough to milk the players with a real money aution house. WTF Blizzard. This is why Free software is important, if someone adds "features" that fuck you over you could just change the source and remove the harmfull features. You are less dependant on a single entity and there is less controls on the users.

KDE: Browse your activities by nsaibotin linux

[–]redsteakraw 3 points4 points ago

the idea is to have activities that could have their own settings(currently power), files, bookmarks and applications associated with it. Right now the concept is done a bit better on Plasma Active, and the Share Like Connect applet(not all apps support it but it makes it easier to add your current document to your activity. Plasma Active is the testing ground for these features and they do seem to help. With this new KIO it should make it easier to do this on the regular plasma desktop.

Qt and GTK are ported so most apps should be able to run on top of Wayland.

This wasn't a regular war like operation, they knew he was an US citizen and he was not in a war zone, they sent a drone and bombed in Yemen where the US citizen was currently at. Yes that is murder, US citizens are supposed to have rights to a trial you know that document the bill of rights, part of the US constitution. Furthermore, one is supposed to have a declaration of war signed by congress before going into a new country which he did not. He was well out side the law trampled all over the basic rights of a citizen and bombed in a country without the popper approvals. Would you want a fair trial if you are accused of something or are you okay with a drone bombing your house? What is there to stop any further trampling of rights. Yes he is a murderer, if you want to excuse all the war like campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq(for the sake of argument) it still doesn't excuse the intentional killing of a US citizen in a non war zone. As for the gun argument and the rape argument that is ridiculous he hasn't ordered any rapes to my knowledge but he has ordered the assassination of a US citizen and that is not okay. If the citizen was so bad then they should be charged in a real court and there should be enough evidence to convict. wiki

Obama appointed the head of the DOJ in this case Eric Holder, and they have weekly meeting in which he advises him and they share information. To say he hasn't heard a thing in any of those meeting about such a public case and one of the largest case the DOJ has been entangled in just seems to be absurd.

Now the violations listed, Obama signed the NDAA, Obama Signed ACTA, authorized the killing of an American citizen in Yemen, has publicly stated he has the right to indefinite detain people. This is all public to just dismiss this is like burying your head in the sand and avoiding reality. Why don't you try to leave your bubble-world of hope and change to see that the only change is taking what Bush did to a higher level. He is responcible for his actions and his actions are well documented.

Obama is a murderer, he ordered the death of an American Citizen without any trial. He said it himself, how would it be irrational to believe that Obama is a murderer when he is. When people show the horrors of war, and pull back the curtains to show the real impact it has on actual people it is a shock to fanboys of the leader in-charge of such horrors. I would say that it isn't just people that support Ron Paul that would point out such things, the anti-war movement is quite diverse from Communists to Libertarians, to Conservatives(non interventionist). Some people get so fixated on race or simple slogans and not the real world impact of the person behind such slogans. Any civil libertarian(civil liberties only no economic views) would tell you Obama has a piss poor record and actually is worse than Bush. I would say the real bubble world is the Obama fans after the NDAA, after the assassination of a US Citizen, after signing ACTA in secret and intentionally hiding the treaty under the guise of national security, after his declaring the right to hold people indefinitely without trial, after his DOJ has fucked with the internet pulling domains and going after MegaUpload. So before you point at others and say they are in a bubbleworld as fundamental liberties are being undermined in our own country.

Holding a politition personally responsible in a public forum is worse than actually brutalising and disfiguring children? WTF is wrong with you? If you give the orders you are responsible plain and simple.

Philips’ new 100W-equivalent LED bulb runs on just 23W by perfectface4radioin TechNewsToday

[–]redsteakraw 0 points1 point ago

The thing is you can dimm these and turn them on and off quickly/often without any degredation. They also aren't filled with mercury wich is a plus if it ever breaks. LEDs also last longer which is another plus. The only metric the CFL would stand to be better is price which is a major roadblock in terms of LED light adoption.

I am not against tags I am just saying there should be no surprise if you click on a link titled sexy hot ass that it would most likely be NSFW even if it isn't tagged. Not all posts are tagged so one should use some common sense when it comes to the posts and not be suprised if people come across posts that are spoilers or nsfw.

I actually would like it if every thing was tagged but also as thing are right now it should be of no surprise to anyone that people would leave the tags out or that there would be spoiler posts the day after a big movie release.

While on reddit if you really care about spoilers, you should assume it is untill proven otherwise given that it is the day after the release. It should also be common knowlege on reddit that redditors don't alway use the tags properly. I would just suggest some common sense.
